Learn about the process, eligibility, and key dates to apply for one of four open seats on the PICAN Board.

PICAN is inviting applications for four open seats on the PICAN Board of Trustees. This is an opportunity for committed Pacific leaders to help guide the organisation’s governance and contribute to advancing climate justice across the region. Those elected to the open seats will serve a one-year term. 

The Opportunity.

The 2026 board election process will fill all four open seats on the PICAN Board of Trustees. The election process is guided by PICAN’s existing policies and procedures, and the full process will be completed by the end of April 2026.

Eligibility.

To be eligible for an open seat, applicants must:

  • Be a Pacific person based in a Pacific Island Country or Territory

  • Have relevant experience, expertise, and skills that can support the work of the Board and Secretariat, including areas such as legal, fiscal, governance, NGO, fundraising, or related expertise

  • Demonstrate commitment to the mission and values of PICAN and the Pacific climate justice movement

  • Be aligned with the CAN International Charter and have no existing conflicts of interest

  • Be able to commit sufficient time to Board responsibilities, including quarterly and ad hoc meetings, participation in working groups, and attendance at virtual and in-person convenings

  • Not currently hold political office during the election or term

  • Not currently serve as a Board member of any PICAN country node

  • Not currently serve as PICAN country node secretariat staff

  • Have no criminal record involving fraud, financial misconduct, or other offences that may affect suitability for governance responsibilities, subject to applicable Fiji and Vanuatu laws.
