Climate Justice Demands 2024 - Assessment Against COP29 Outcomes

December 2024

Pre COP29 we drafted our Climate Justice Demands which became our metric for success as we review what was achieved this year globally. One thing is clear, but perhaps not reflected in this analysis - SIDS led with ambition through each multilateral process and fought the good fight for the survival of our Islands and for the common good. You will see that generally the processes that are to serve us, did not deliver.

However our Youth and many Pacific leaders made incredible strides that can leave us proud and instill us with hope as we continue to seek a climate safe, just, and equitable future for all.

We have assessed the COP29 Outcomes against our 2024 Climate Justice Demands looking at the following themes:

  1. Human Rights, Inclusiveness, and Accountability

  2. Loss and Damage

  3. Fair and Equitable Finance

  4. Integrated Action on Oceans, Biodiversity, and Pollution
