About the Event

Time: 15:00 - 15:50 (BRT)

Venue: Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion

Ten years after the Paris Agreement, this side event will examine the scientific and ethical imperative of holding global temperature rise to 1.5°C. For Pacific Small Island Developing States (SIDS), this target is not a distant goal but a matter of survival.

The event will bring together climate scientists, Pacific negotiators, and civil society leaders to discuss the latest scientific findings and the escalating impacts of climate change on the region. It will delve into the concept of "overshoot" and its dire implications, such as irreversible sea-level rise and the loss of entire ecosystems and cultures. We will showcase how Pacific nations have been at the forefront of global climate action, using their moral authority and powerful voice to push for stronger commitments and a just transition. The discussion will underscore why the world must heed the science…
