Pacific Eyes on Bonn as Critical Climate Talks Begin

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

8 June 2026

  • What: The 64th Sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies (SB64) in Bonn, Germany, the first major climate negotiations since COP30.

  • When: 8–18 June 2026

  • Where: World Conference Center Bonn. Bonn, Germany

SB64 is the first major climate negotiating session since COP30 and will help shape the road to COP31 and the Pacific Pre-COP later this year.

While COPs attract the headlines, many of the decisions that reach world leaders are first negotiated in Bonn. Discussions at SB64 will cover climate finance, adaptation, implementation of Global Stocktake outcomes, ocean and climate action, and new processes launched at COP30.

For the Pacific, the meeting comes at a critical moment. Negotiators will be debating issues that directly affect the region’s future, including access to climate finance, keeping 1.5°C alive, and maintaining the integrity of climate science within the UNFCCC process.

With Pacific countries expected to play a prominent role on the road to COP31, the outcomes of SB64 will be closely watched across the region. Strong outcomes in Bonn can help build momentum. Weak outcomes will make the road to COP31 much harder.

Media opportunities

Pacific civil society representatives are available throughout the conference for:

  • Live and pre-recorded interviews

  • Reaction to negotiation developments and outcomes

  • Analysis of key agenda items and emerging issues

  • Pacific perspectives on climate finance, adaptation, loss and damage, climate justice and international climate diplomacy

  • Background briefings on the significance of SB64 and its implications for the Pacific region

Journalists seeking interviews or Pacific civil society perspectives from Bonn are encouraged to contact PICAN directly.
